Almost everything in this guide happens outside. These are the two exceptions our hosts name: a gym for people who do not want to lose a training block to a holiday, and minigolf for the afternoon when the children have had enough scenery.
The gym
Naefit is in Icod de los Vinos, near the Lidl, about eight minutes by car. Our hosts pass on its nickname — the “Masters of Iron” — and describe it as focused on strength training with proper facilities.
That is a specific and useful signal. It means barbells and racks rather than a row of cardio machines, and it means a real gym used by locals rather than something attached to a hotel. If you lift, this is a place you can keep going.
Ask about short-term access at the desk; independent gyms here usually accommodate visitors but the arrangements vary.
Minigolf, and the wet-afternoon problem
The Minigolf Club in Puerto de la Cruz, about twenty-five minutes east, is our hosts’ recommendation for family entertainment.
It is worth being straight about why this matters. The north coast is cloudier and wetter than the south — that is the trade for the greenery and the quiet — and a week here will usually include an afternoon where the beach is not happening.
The other options for that afternoon are all closer: Cueva del Viento ten minutes away, Casa de Platana in Icod, and the museums in La Laguna if you are prepared to drive.
