Where to eat on the north coast

The north eats differently from the resort south: more fish, more rabbit, more wine grown a few kilometres from the table. Lunch is the main meal of the week, and a good half of these kitchens shut through the afternoon.

These are the places we send guests to, starting with the two you can walk to from our door and ending with the one you need to book two months ahead.

Why the restaurant is shut when you turn up

North Tenerife restaurants keep hours that surprise visitors: village kitchens close all afternoon, neighbours take turns opening, and lunch is the big weekend meal.

What is a guachinche?
