Bar Brisamar sits across from the beach at Playa de San Marcos, a few minutes downhill from the apartment. It is the village’s local bar, and the natural last stop after eating at Amarca or Casa Chicha.

What kind of bar it is

A local one. This is not a cocktail list or a terrace with a DJ; it is where people from the village have a drink, facing a black-sand bay, at prices that reflect that.

There used to be karaoke at weekends. It stopped after complaints about noise, which our hosts record with a certain wistfulness.

Expectations, honestly set

San Marcos has no nightlife in the sense a visitor from a resort town would recognise. There are a handful of restaurants, this bar, and the Club Náutico cafeteria along the front. Then it is quiet.

That is what most guests come here for. If you want a proper evening out, Puerto de la Cruz is twenty-five minutes east and has the bars, restaurants and people to go with it.

Why it earns a mention anyway

Because it is walkable, and because sitting outside a village bar with the Atlantic in front of you after a plate of grilled fish is a very good way to end a day — and you do not need to drive afterwards.

“Local bar right down across the beach. Great for a night cap after dinner. It's a pity they had to stop with Karaoke on the weekends due too many noice ;-)”

Common questions

Is there any nightlife in San Marcos?

Not in the resort sense. This is a village bar by the beach — a drink after dinner rather than a night out. For more, Puerto de la Cruz is twenty-five minutes away.

Can I walk there from the apartment?

Yes, a few minutes downhill. Which is the point of a nightcap.

What happened to the karaoke?

It stopped, on noise grounds. Our hosts note it with some regret.
